Former CPTO of Redcare Pharmacy (Shop Apotheke Europe) and founder of Software Butze and
Beratungs Butze, a boutique for AI-assisted legacy transformation and AI-native product development.
C-level operating experience: platform revenue scaled from €900 million to €3 billion, organizations
built to 300+ FTE, full shop-to-platform transformation. Available for interim executive roles,
replatforming and AI strategy mandates, and hands-on delivery.

Two Days a Week, Eighteen Months of Change: The Fractional Contradiction

AI transformation is sold as a technology programme, but it runs on people: incentives, career ladders, hiring bars, and what an organisation rewards. That work needs authority to reassign, promote, and remove and it needs someone who will still be there when the consequences arrive. The fractional CTO has neither: one or two days a week, no line authority, an end date known to everyone in the room. So either fractional's honest scope is phase one diagnosis, coalition, first wins, installing the internal owner or the market is quietly pulling us toward interim roles with real decision rights, and "fractional" becomes the wrong word for the work.

Questions for the conversation:
How many of your current mandates exist because of AI?
Have you ever driven real behavioural change in a client without line authority? Who is driving the actual change?
Where does temporariness become an advantage?
Where do you observe yourself holding back?

Final question:
If the work clients now want requires authority, presence, and time - three things fractional is defined by not having - what are you actually building: a practice, or a bridge to your next full-time role?
